Hull Sections
For simplicity, a starship's hull is divided into nine distinct sections:
- Port Bow - The front left.
- Bow - The front center.
- Starboard Bow - The front right.
- Port Beam - The middle left.
- Amidship - The middle.
- Starboard Beam - The middle right.
- Port Quarter - The rear left.
- Stern - The rear middle.
- Starboard Quarter - The rear right.
To make navigating along the hull of a starship more easily accessible, the hull is arranged in a grid pattern. The very center of the ship, amidship, is 0, 0. Each hull class has a range of coordinates that make up the entirety of the hull. This range may look like -10, -10 to 10, 10. The following X, Y modifiers should assist in moving about on a hull:
- +X, +Y - Moving starboard toward the bow.
- +X, -Y - Moving starboard toward the stern.
- +X - Moving starboard
- -X, +Y - Moving port toward the bow.
- -X, -Y - Moving port toward the stern.
- -X - Moving port.
- +Y - Moving toward the bow.
- -Y - Moving toward the stern.
In addition to the X and Y axis, starships are also divided into three sections on the Z-axis. The top of the ship is known as the dorsal side. The middle of the ship is known simply as the flank. The bottom of the ship is the ventral side. For each section of the Z-axis, there is also an X, Y section. This makes it possible to have several complicated designations, such as the "ventral port bow", which would be the bottom of the ship at the front left. Be aware that you also have a "dorsal port bow", which would be located at the top of the ship at the front left.
