Policy 8: Hosts Impersonation/Host Conspiracies

Telling people that you are a host or staff member of Toastsoft when you're not is impersonation of a host. This could be as simple as saying "I'm a host," or going as far as saying you can read other player's whispers.

For those who don't understand why this is a problem, we'll outline it here. The first, and most obvious, is the creation of host conspiracy theories. It's slightly natural for people to be wary of hosts and their player characters. If people think you are a host, they're going to treat you differently. Another problem is that we, the real hosts, don't get paid for this. Since we don't receive monetary benefits, it's nice to know our work is appreciated. If people go around taking credit for our work, then we lose that.

Furthermore, claiming to have the support of the hosts when you do not falls under this policy as well. It is generally a bad idea to say that we support your quest to destroy every player in the game, as we probably don't.

Finally, many hosts have player characters, or alts, to make it easier to see things through a player's eyes. Alts are especially helpful in finding bugs, undescribed rooms, and all sorts of things that a host may have missed when building or coding something. Alts are also used for relaxation purposes, and their identities are generally kept secret. Unfortunately, sometimes a player may find out who a host's alt is. If you happen to learn who a host's alt is, it's best that you keep the information to yourself rather than spreading it around. Furthermore, asking a player character if they are a host is frowned upon and considered a violation of this policy. Finally, if a host's alt does something mean to you, that doesn't mean the host did it. For example, Greg is a host, and Bunny is Greg's alt. If Bunny does something to you, don't tell people Greg did it. This would be a lie, and lying about hosts is not permitted because it can start host conspiracy theories, among other things.

If you are concerned that there is a host conspiracy afoot then instead of spreading it publically, ASSIST and ask about it so that we can clarify any misconceptions.

Punishment: Because of the nature of host impersonation or host conspiracies, a set in stone punishment doesn't really fit. Therefore, punishment for violation of this policy will be applied on a case by case basis.
